MS gun assembly

General

The MS Gun series are the standard applicators used in most packaging applications.  The MS Guns are “air open and spring closed” and use the H-200 style gun modules.  These applicators should be used with general packaging grade adhesive at temperatures from 93°C(200°F) up to 190°C(375°F).

These guns are compatible with Nordson BCS Classic Blue and Solid Blue A gun series as well as the older H-200 series.  The MS Guns can be configured in various spacing configurations and have 3 available fluid ports on each gun to allow for maximum versatility when installing on the production machine.

Electrical

Each MS Gun is configured with a 220-240VAC heater cartridge.  The wattages vary depending on the size of each manifold.  The standard heater OD is ½”.

Mounting

The MS Guns come standard with a clamp for ½” round bar or hex bar stock.  There are 3/8”round bar bracket clamps available and can be purchased separately.  If additional brackets are required, please see the brackets section of the Valco Melton catalog.

Air Activation

They require compressed air at a pressure of at least 60PSI to lift the needle off of the seat which allows the adhesive to flow through the valve and onto the product.  Gun configurations having 4 or more modules will require greater a higher volume of air as well as a higher pressure base no less than 80PSI.  For any applicator with more than 4 modules, it’s recommended that 3/8” or 10mm air line is used to supply the compressed air.  All air ports are 1/8” NPT.  The MS Guns also offer various activation configurations for independent air porting.  Most independent air configurations are fitted with QD fittings to allow for easy installation.

ME gun assembly

General

The ME Gun series are a high speed and applicator used in packaging and graphics applications. The ME Guns are “air open and air closed” and use the ME gun module. These applicators can be used with general packaging grade, PSA Pressure sensitive and Fugitive adhesive at temperatures from 93°C(200°F) up to 190°C(375°F).

These guns are compatible with Nordson Sure-Bead and Solid Blue B gun series. The ME Guns can be configured in various spacing configurations for any required application.

Electrical

Each ME Gun is configured with a 220-240VAC heater cartridge. The standard heater OD is 1/2”.

Mounting

The ME Guns come standard with a clamp for 1/2” round bar or hex bar stock. There are 3/8”round bar bracket clamps available and can be purchased separately. If additional brackets are required, please see the brackets section.

Solenoid

Most ME Guns are fitted with a 4-way solenoid and pre-plumbed from the factory. The solenoids are 24VDC and can be fired from any PLC and/or most existing pattern controls.

Air Activation

They require compressed air at a pressure of at least 60PSI. The ME Guns also offer various activation configurations for independent air porting. Most independent air configurations come with QD fittings to allow for easy installation.modules, a blanking plate must be ordered to fill the open spot. If the system requires more than 4 of the control modules, a second VCX unit is required.  Systems that require a second VCX will also require one of the secondary system stands.

MK gun assembly

General

The MK Gun series are a high speed and premium style applicator used in graphics and some various packaging applications. The MK Guns are “air open and air closed” and use the H-100 style mini-module. These applicators can be used with general packaging grade, PSA Pressure sensitive and Fugitive adhesive at temperatures from 93°C(200°F) up to 190°C(375°F).

These guns are compatible with Nordson Mini Blue series. The MK Guns are only available in single module configurations.

Modules

The MK Gun series offers two module options. The standard module is a zero cavity mini-module that provides extremely fast and accurate bead placement with any style adhesive. The optional module is a mini-module that uses the standard nozzles for the H-200 series modules. This is a 3/8”-24 thread and is typically used in place of the zero cavity module when multiple beads are required.

Electrical

Each MK Gun is configured with a 220-240VAC heater cartridge. The wattages vary depending on the size of each manifold. Special sized heater cartridges are use in the MK Gun.

Mounting

MZ swirl gun assembly

General

The MZ Gun series are swirl/spray and are used in labeling and non woven applications. The MZ Guns are “air open and spring closed” and use the CF-200 style gun module. These applicators can be used with general packaging grade and PSA Pressure sensitive adhesives at temperatures from 93°C(200°F) up to 190°C(375°F).

The MZ Guns require 2 valve signals for proper application. One signal operates the valve activation of the fluid module and the other signal operates the swirl air which enters through the gun below the fluid port. These guns have an air heating grid machined into the bottom of the gun that supplies heated air for the swirl activation. This helps ensure that the swirl pattern is accurately placed and helps control the stringing or “angel hair” that is commonly produced with spray/swirl applications. The MZ Guns can be configured in various spacing configurations for any required application.

Electrical

Each ME Gun is configured with a 220-240VAC heater cartridge. The wattages vary depending on the size of each manifold. The standard heater OD is ½”.

Mounting

The MZ Guns come standard with a clamp for ½” round bar or hex bar stock. There are 3/8”round bar bracket clamps available and can be purchased separately. If additional brackets are required, please request as additional item.

Hoses

All MZ Guns require special hoses that contain a ¼” air tube inside the hose that helps heat the air that is required for the swirl activation.

Solenoid

Most MZ Guns do not come with solenoids and must be ordered separately. Each MZ gun will require regulated air to both solenoids. Make sure to include 2 solenoids and 2 air regulators for each MZ Gun being installed. If multiple MZ Guns are being used, you can split the air from each regulator to operate multiple swirl modules and swirl air control. The solenoids are 24VDC and can be fired from any PLC and/or most existing pattern controls.

MX gun assembly

General

The MX electric hot melt applicator is commonly found in applications that require high speed or high cycle counts. Applications such as envelope manufacturing, filter manufacturing, high speed cartoning are all ideal for the MX technology.

The MX valve is available in two versions. One uses the standard 3/8”-24 thread nozzles which are also used on all the standard MS and ME applicators. The other is a 11/16-24 thread that utilizes a retaining nut and Type 1 or H-20 style nozzles. For high speed applications, the 3/8”-24 thread version provides the best cut-off and reduced stringing commonly referred to as “Angel Hair”.

The MX module may be replaced without removing the entire gun manifold. The electromagnetic coil is built into each module and simply “plugs-in” to the manifold.

Note: Eax MX manifold comes with a built-in filter. The filter screens are the same used by the Mars In-Line Filter Assemblies. The standard screen is 100 mesh in thickness.

The MX electric valve is fired from a special control or valve driver. This driver can be purchased as a separate individual box that receives a 24VDC signal from a PLC or other controller and outputs a signal to the MX. If you are using or have the Valco MCS, MCP-4, VCX, or MCP-25 control this driver is already built into the software and can be operated without the use of the external driver.
